Original Rose Quartz: How to Check Authenticity & Fair Price in India

Rose Quartz is one of the most searched — and most faked — crystals sold in India. Because genuine rose quartz is affordable to begin with, low-value dyed glass or resin "crystals" get passed off as the real thing at inflated prices. Here's how to tell the difference before you buy.

Four checks you can do at home

• Temperature: real quartz feels cool to the touch and warms slowly in your hand. Glass and resin imitations often feel room-temperature or warm almost immediately.
• Inclusions: genuine rose quartz is rarely perfectly clear — look for natural cloudiness, faint fractures, or milky streaks. Suspiciously flawless, uniformly pink pieces are a red flag for dyed glass.
• Weight: quartz is denser than most glass of the same size — a piece that feels unusually light for its size is worth a second look.
• Colour pattern: natural rose quartz has soft, uneven colour variation, sometimes with white or clear patches. Dyed glass tends to be flat and evenly saturated throughout.

What a fair price actually looks like

Prices vary by size, clarity and whether a piece is tumbled, raw, or carved, but as a rough guide: small tumbled stones and chip bracelets sit at the lower end, while larger clusters, spheres, or carved pieces (hearts, palm stones) cost more for the material and workmanship, not because they're "more authentic." Be wary of prices that seem too low for the size — that's usually where dyed glass enters the market, not a bargain on the real stone.
